Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
Who didn't see this coming after this past year? I like George, but i think this was coming esp. after last year.
Sometimes you can't rely on what you have done in the past. This could upset in BSG. I know a lot are talking retiring. And a few other changes.
Which with some may not be to bad. The town needs restructering some.
But not sure it's wise for all to end up gone.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
I just heard that George is going to get to stay.... but I dont have details yet.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
Barbara Orndoroff is the Mayor, Eddy Giles is the Vice-Mayor and George Polly is still the Town Manager. He will be evaluated every six months to maintain that position. We recessed the meeting to reconvene on July 7 at 6 pm to appoint a Town Clerk and Treasurer. We met from 10 am, until after 3 pm. I am tired and must go back for the Thomas and Julius Jones day.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
I was just waiting for a fist fight or cat fight to break out. Tensions were very high from the moment the crowd rolled in. (You know it's big when there are more folks at the council meeting than there are at Thomas & Julius Jones day!)
I've never been at a meeting where the public was permitted to speak for 3 hours before council agenda. A bewildered & confused WCYB reporter chatted with me during recess. He asked me: "have you ever seen a meeting like this before?" It was somewhat puzzling. None of us expected to be there that long.
The actions of 4 certain council members sent up a huge red flag. I didnt get warm fuzzies being there.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
I thought I should know you. Why didn't you approach me? It was a very long, exhausting day and I didn't make it long enough to view the 11 o'clock news. You know, being emotionally drained is worse that being physically drained. Still tired this morning.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
Well I was gonna say howdy, but to be honest you looked exhausted and you still had all these others folks swarmed around. I figured I wouldn't add to the crowd - somebody had to give you a break!
You've got a tough job.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
Let me give you guys a flip side to this issue. There have now been three different councils elected at least partially upon the premise that there would be major change. The removal of Polly being a part of that change. All three have now backed downed or more accurately have "been" backed down.
To the average voter (myself) this reeks of hypocrisy. Correct or not it gives the indication that regardless of what the voters want they cannot and will not get it. There are powers greater than the vote at work it seems.
The same philosophy and even families in many cases have now run this town for slightly over 100 years. Time for a change? Well if all was well maybe not. All is FAR from well.
The general public is not near as in the dark as some might like to believe. Don't let the opinion of a small percentage of voter's (and regardless of how many showed up at the meeting that is still what it was, a small percentage) lead you to believe that a majority feel the same as a highly vocal roomful. The votes are the true means to gauge what the majority want. That majority spoke clearly. There shouid be NO mistake there.
I really like George on a personal level. I think most everyone does. But so what? That should have absoluetly zero to do with it. Nothing at all.
I saw on the news that there is to be an attempt at a recall. Not a good idea, not at all. I'm reasonable person but I'm not sure my reaction would be something anyone would want to hear if I were asked to sign on to such a recall. I can guarantee you that I am FAR from the only one who would be more than willing to look one right in the face and give them my exact opinion of their recall. This would be a divisive action and would farther divide the town. Believe me when the next election rolls around the true feelings of the "silent" majority will AGAIN be heard loud and clear. But alas I'm sure it will AGAIN be ignored.....
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
If we can really make a scandal of this , get in the national press and all, coupled with Appy's year, Richmond might give Wise County to Kaintucky.
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
At least then some of the neputism would be considered natural
Re: George Polly out as Town Manager?
Looks like maybe BSG has some more serious inside issues than, were originally thought or seen.
Take a look up the road folks. Is it worth destroying your town and community?
If it ain't right. Fix it. But don't let it tear your town and community apart. Appy will survive it's our nature. But you have to want to fix it and work together.
Just my opinion. Which as i always say that and 98 cents you can maybe get a cup of coffee.
